OB – Pregnancy Philosophy:
We realize that each pregnancy, each birth, and each person is truly unique and different.
We also have witnessed and understand that each pregnancy, each birth, and each person is a true miracle!
How else could one describe the incredible journey of growth from conception to birth…the process of forming a new life! It is with honor that we humbly accept the privilege to assist you along this journey. It goes without saying that pregnancy is a life changing experience; a journey of incredible physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and economic changes.
Throughout the aches and pains, joys, and sometimes sorrows, we hope to provide you with the experience, education, and medical care you need in preparation for such a change. We follow expert recommendations for offering screening, diagnostics, and evaluations, always in partnership with our patient’s desires. We respect the autonomy of each patient, and encourage open communication and education to provide the healthiest journey for you and your new child.
Our goal is always the same; for a healthy mother, father, and baby…a true miracle!
OB – Pregnancy Services offered:
- Pre-pregnancy planning and health evaluation prior to getting pregnant
- Prenatal care (Care throughout pregnancy)
- Delivery at Family Birthing Center – Adventist Health Hanford (Normal vaginal delivery as well as Cesarean section if needed)
- Tubal Ligation if desired
- Postpartum care of mother and infant
- Circumcision of infant if desired
- Follow up care for you and your infant (At the same time if preferred)
Note: Dr. Lloyd provides all of the prenatal visits, and is on call and available for all of his own deliveries at Adventist Health Hanford with the rare exception of when he is out of town. In such cases he shares backup coverage with other excellent physicians in this community.
OB Visits & Recommended Tests – What can I expect?
General Outline of OB Visits and Recommended Tests:
4-8 weeks:
- First Appointment: OB INTAKE Appointment
- Meet Dr. Lloyd
- Review medical history in detail, fill out forms, and order necessary lab work
- Discuss your pregnancy & answer all of your questions
- Prescription for prenatal vitamins and other medications if needed
- Discuss optional Genetic Screening tests
6-12 weeks:
- Second Appointment: Complete Physical Exam
- A Complete physical exam including Pap smear if needed
- Review results of labs and discuss genetic testing or additional testing if needed
- Confirm final due date (Brief ultrasound if indicated)
- Monitor and check weight, blood pressure, baby’s growth, urine, and any possible complications or symptoms
- Discuss ongoing expectations, education, and planning
10-30 weeks:
- Monthly Doctor Appointments
- Continue to monitor and check weight, blood pressure, urine, baby’s growth, baby’s heart rate, and and any possible complications or symptoms
- Discuss ongoing expectations, education, and planning
19-20 weeks:
- Complete Obstetrical Ultrasound ordered and reviewed
- Usually can tell sex of baby at this time
- Continue to monitor and check weight, blood pressure, urine, baby’s growth, baby’s heart rate, and any possible complications or symptoms
Around 28 weeks:
- Screen for gestational diabetes
- Rhogham shot if indicated based on blood type
- Continue to monitor and check weight, blood pressure, urine, baby’s growth, baby’s heart rate, and any possible complications or symptoms
- Discuss ongoing expectations, education, and planning
30 weeks to 36 weeks:
- Doctor appointments every 2 weeks
- Continue to monitor and check weight, blood pressure, urine, baby’s growth, baby’s heart rate, and any possible complications or symptoms.
- Discuss ongoing expectations, education, and planning
35-37 weeks:
- Weekly Doctor visits until delivery
- Group B strep testing
- Confirm baby’s head is in the correct position for vaginal birth
- Continue to monitor and check weight, blood pressure, urine, baby’s growth, baby’s heart rate, and any possible complications or symptoms
- Discuss ongoing expectations, education, and labor planning specifics
39+ weeks:
Delivery at Family Birthing Center – Adventist Health Hanford Hospital:
-Normal Spontaneous Vaginal Delivery whenever labor happens
-Repeat Cesarean Sections are scheduled after 39 weeks
-Consider Induction of labor after 41 weeks if not delivered
First week after delivery:
- Follow Up visit for mother and baby
- Review symptoms, pain, breastfeeding, and how mother, father and baby are doing
Recommended Vaccines during pregnancy:
If you are not up to date please ask about the following vaccines:
1. Influenza vaccination
2. Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis vaccination
Baby 2d, 3d, 4d Ultrasound Services
